Two weeks following the NFL Combine, I finally was able to publish my second mock. While there were some big risers like Tristan Wirfs and Denzel Mims, not too much has changed. Still, here’s a first round mock with analysis as well as Combine results.
1. Cincinnati Bengals – Joe Burrow, QB, LSU
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 221 lbs
Arm: 30 ⅞”
Hand: 9”
40-Yard Dash: –
Bench Press: –
Broad Jump: –
Vertical Jump: –
Despite the Joe Burrow Hand Controversy, he’s still the clear #1 pick. No change here.
2. Washington Redskins – Chase Young, Edge, Ohio State
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 264 lbs
Arm: 33 ¾”
Hand: 10”
40-Yard Dash: –
Bench Press: –
Broad Jump: –
Vertical Jump: –
No change here either. The football fan in me wanted Young to show off his monster abilities at the Combine, but he’s already solidified his position as a top 3 pick.
3. Miami Dolphins (from Detroit Lions) – Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama
Height: 6’0”
Weight: 217 lbs
Arm: 30 ½”
Hand: 10”
40-Yard Dash: –
Bench Press: –
Broad Jump: –
Vertical Jump: –
Rumor has it that Tua’s rehab has been successful, so we’ll say the Dolphins sacrifice one or two of their many picks to move up and take him. The Redskins could even take him and move on from Dwayne Haskins, but we’ll dive into that possibility after free agency.
4. Los Angeles Chargers (from New York Giants) – Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon
Height: 6’6”
Weight: 236 lbs
Arm: 32 ⅞”
Hand: 10”
40-Yard Dash: 4.68s
Bench Press: –
Broad Jump: 123.0”
Vertical Jump: 35.5”
Justin Herbert had a monster combine. His 4.68 was faster than I expected, and he looked incredibly sharp in the on-field drills. He showed off his desirable physical traits during Combine week.
5. Detroit Lions (from Miami Dolphins) – Jeffrey Okudah, CB, Ohio State
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 205 lbs
Arm: 32 ⅝”
Hand: 9 ⅛”
40-Yard Dash: 4.48s
Bench Press: 11 reps
Broad Jump: 135.0”
Vertical Jump: 41.0”
Okudah’s combination of length (32 ⅝”) and vertical (41.0”) means he’ll be able to reach any ball thrown his way. He’s the clear CB1 in this class.
6. New York Giants (from Los Angeles Chargers) – Mekhi Becton, OT, Louisville
Height: 6’7”
Weight: 364 lbs
Arm: 35 ⅝”
Hand: 10 ¾”
40-Yard Dash: 5.10s
Bench Press: 23 reps
Broad Jump: –
Vertical Jump: –
There are a variety of different ways the Giants could go here, but if GM Dave Gettleman has proved anything so far, it’s that he’s unpredictable. That’s why I’ll be out-of-the-box here with a Becton selection after they trade back with the Chargers. Becton showed the world that even though he’s huge, he’s still very mobile.
7. Carolina Panthers – Isaiah Simmons, LB/S, Clemson
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 238 lbs
Arm: 33 ⅜”
Hand: 9 ⅝”
40-Yard Dash: 4.39s
Bench Press: –
Broad Jump: 132.0”
Vertical Jump: 39.0”
Simmons may have had the best Combine out of anybody. Just look at those numbers. Freak. The Panthers would be happy to draft Luke Kuechly’s successor here.
8. Arizona Cardinals – CeeDee Lamb, WR, Oklahoma
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 198 lbs
Arm: 32 ¼”
Hand: 9 ¼”
40-Yard Dash: 4.50s
Bench Press: 11 reps
Broad Jump: 124.0”
Vertical Jump: 34.5”
Instead of going O-Line this time, the Cards go for Kyler’s old buddy. This seems like the type of move Kliff Kingsbury would want to make for his young QB. Lamb looked like the top WR during the drills at the Combine, so don’t be surprised if he’s drafted as the top guy.
9. Jacksonville Jaguars – Derrick Brown, DT, Auburn
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 326 lbs
Arm: 34 ¼”
Hand: 9”
40-Yard Dash: 5.16s
Bench Press: 28 reps
Broad Jump: 108.0
Vertical Jump: 27.0
Another mock, same pick. Brown’s stock didn’t change too much at the Combine, but that’s not a bad thing in his case. The Jags revamp their front again here.
10. Cleveland Browns – Tristan Wirfs, OT, Iowa
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 320 lbs
Arm: 34”
Hand: 10 ¼”
40-Yard Dash: 4.85s
Bench Press: 24 reps
Broad Jump: 121.0”
Vertical Jump: 36.5”
I take that back, Wirfs had the best Combine week. He had a better vertical and broad jump than top receiver Jerry Jeudy and running a 4.85 as an O-Lineman is impressive to say the least. After the arrest of Greg Robinson, the Browns gladly would take Wirfs.
11. New York Jets – Jedrick Wills Jr., OT, Alabama
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 312 lbs
Arm: 34 ¼”
Hand: 10”
40-Yard Dash: 5.05s
Bench Press:
Broad Jump: 113.0”
Vertical Jump: 34.5”
Wills has dropped down boards just because of the success of Becton and Wirfs. He still put up great numbers, though, and he’s a guaranteed top 15 prospect.
12. Las Vegas Raiders – Jerry Jeudy, WR, Alabama
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 193 lbs
Arm: 32 ⅛”
Hand: 9 ½”
40-Yard Dash: 4.45s
Bench Press: –
Broad Jump: 120.0”
Vertical Jump: 35.0”
Jeudy put up similar numbers to CeeDee Lamb at the Combine. However, CeeDee jumped him based on the on-field drills.
13. Indianapolis Colts – Javon Kinlaw, DT, South Carolina
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 324 lbs
Arm: 34 ⅞”
Hand: 10 ½”
40-Yard Dash: –
Bench Press: –
Broad Jump: –
Vertical Jump: –
Kinlaw’s measurables were much freakier than I thought they would be. We’ll say the Colts find their new QB in free agency and take Kinlaw to anchor the DL here.
14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 315 lbs
Arm: 36 ⅛”
Hand: 10 ¼”
40-Yard Dash: 5.22s
Bench Press: 21 reps
Broad Jump: 109.0”
Vertical Jump: 30.5”
He may have been overshadowed by his OT peers, but don’t forget about Andrew Thomas. Whether the Bucs stay with Jameis or find a new signal-caller, Thomas would be there to bolster their OL.
15. Denver Broncos – Henry Ruggs III, WR, Alabama
Height: 5’11”
Weight: 188 lbs
Arm: 30 ½”
Hand: 10 ⅛”
40-Yard Dash: 4.27s
Bench Press: –
Broad Jump: 131.0”
Vertical Jump: 42.0”
Look at these numbers. If Jeudy and Lamb ae off the board, it would be hard to see the Broncos let Ruggs slide any farther.
16. Atlanta Falcons – K’Lavon Chaisson, Edge, LSU
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 254 lbs
Arm: 32 ¼”
Hand: 9 ⅞”
40-Yard Dash: –
Bench Press: –
Broad Jump: –
Vertical Jump: –
I was very disappointed that Chaisson didn’t take part in the Combine, and his Pro Day could easily be cancelled due to the Coronavirus. Nevertheless, it’s easy to see his potential.
17. Dallas Cowboys – C.J. Henderson, CB, Florida
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 204 lbs
Arm: 31 ⅝”
Hand: 9”
40-Yard Dash: 4.39s
Bench Press: 20 reps
Broad Jump: 127.0”
Vertical Jump: 37.5”
With Byron Jones likely to be on the way out, sliding Henderson into the lineup wouldn’t hurt the Cowboys one bit. In my mind, he’s the clear CB2.
18. Miami Dolphins – Kristian Fulton, CB, LSU
Height: 6’0”
Weight: 197 lbs
Arm: 30 ⅝”
Hand: 9 ⅛”
40-Yard Dash: 4.46s
Bench Press: –
Broad Jump: 123.0”
Vertical Jump: 35.5”
Right behind Henderson is Fulton at CB3. His numbers don’t pop, but he makes up for that with his intelligence.
19. Oakland Raiders – Patrick Queen, LB, LSU
Height: 6’0”
Weight: 229 lbs
Arm: 31 ⅝”
Hand:10”
40-Yard Dash: 4.50s
Bench Press: 18 reps
Broad Jump: 125.0”
Vertical Jump: 35.0”
Queen vaults Kenneth Murray in this mock. His value in the run game would mean a lot to the Raiders.
20. Jacksonville Jaguars – Xavier McKinney, S, Alabama
Height: 6’0”
Weight: 201 lbs
Arm: 30 ⅞”
Hand: 8 ⅝”
40-Yard Dash: 4.63s
Bench Press: 19 reps
Broad Jump: 122.0”
Vertical Jump: 36.0”
Keep in mind that McKinney was hobbled during his 40. He’s the Swiss Army Knife of this draft class who would be an immediate starter on the Jags.
21. Philadelphia Eagles – Trevon Diggs, CB, Alabama
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 205 lbs
Arm: 32 ¾”
Hand: 9 ⅜”
40-Yard Dash: –
Bench Press: –
Broad Jump: –
Vertical Jump: –
He didn’t participate, but that 32 ¾” arm length is great for a CB to have. Length is an important thing to have for DBs, and Diggs has it.
22. Buffalo Bills – Denzel Mims, WR, Baylor
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 207 lbs
Arm: 33 ⅞”
Hand: 9 ⅜”
40-Yard Dash: 4.38s
Bench Press: 16 reps
Broad Jump: 131.0”
Vertical Jump: 38.0”
Mims’ stock went through the roof after the Combine. He’s the type of big receiver that would complement John Brown and Cole Beasley well.
23. New England Patriots – Jordan Love, QB, Utah State
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 224 lbs
Arm: 32 ⅝”
Hand: 10 ⅝”
40-Yard Dash: 4.74s
Bench Press: –
Broad Jump: 118.0”
Vertical Jump: 35.5”
This is probably the lowest you’ll see Love going, but as a Pats fan, I’d love to see this. Even if Brady stays I’d love this.
24. New Orleans Saints – Justin Jefferson, WR, LSU
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 202 lbs
Arm: 33”
Hand: 9 ⅛”
40-Yard Dash: 4.43s
Bench Press: –
Broad Jump: 126.0”
Vertical Jump: 37.5”
Jefferson was another guy to improve his stock at the Combine. Michael Thomas would be the perfect mentor for him.
25. Minnesota Vikings – Neville Gallimore, DT, Oklahoma
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 304 lbs
Arm: 32 ¾”
Hand: 9 ⅝”
40-Yard Dash: 4.79s
Bench Press: 23 reps
Broad Jump: –
Vertical Jump: –
With the release of DT Linval Joseph, this is a logical selection. Need meets value perfectly here.
26. Miami Dolphins – Josh Jones, OT, Houston
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 319 lbs
Arm: 33 ⅞”
Hand: 10 ⅛”
40-Yard Dash: 5.27s
Bench Press: 24 reps
Broad Jump: 109.0”
Vertical Jump: 28.5”
The Dolphins still land Jones, but at a discount. Like Andrew Thomas, he was overshadowed by the top OTs at the Combine. It’s still hard to see him drop out of round 1, though.
27. Seattle Seahawks – Yetur Gross-Matos, Edge, Penn State
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 266 lbs
Arm: 34 ⅞”
Hand: 9 ¾”
40-Yard Dash: –
Bench Press: 20 reps
Broad Jump: 120.0”
Vertical Jump: 34.0”
Gross-Matos quietly had a stellar Combine. It’s looking more and more likely that the Seahawks will let Jadeveon Clowney go, so they’ll need to reboot their DL if that happens.
28. Baltimore Ravens – Kenneth Murray, LB, Oklahoma
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 241 lbs
Arm: 32 ¾”
Hand: 9 ½”
40-Yard Dash: 4.52”
Bench Press: 21 reps
Broad Jump: 129.0”
Vertical Jump: 38.0”
Instead of choosing from the deep group of receivers here, the Ravens end up taking C.J. Mosley’s successor. Murray hasn’t risen up boards like I projected he would, but his talent is undeniable.
29. Tennessee Titans – Zack Baun, LB, Wisconsin
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 238 lbs
Arm: 32 ¾”
Hand: 9 ⅝”
40-Yard Dash: 4.65s
Bench Press: 24 reps
Broad Jump: 115.0”
Vertical Jump: 32.5”
If McKinney is the top Swiss Army Knife in this class, then Baun is a close second. This is his first appearance in my mock, so I’ll give you some numbers from his past two seasons:137 tackles, 27.0 TFL, 15.0 sacks.
30. Green Bay Packers – Jalen Reagor, WR, TCU
Height: 5’11”
Weight: 206 lbs
Arm: 31 ⅜”
Hand: 9 ½”
40-Yard Dash: 4.47s
Bench Press: 17 reps
Broad Jump: 138.0”
Vertical Jump: 42.0”
Reagor’s 40 time certainly didn’t match up with his quick game speed. The 40-Yard dash is overrated, though, and I loved to see his broad and vertical jumps. A-Rod finally gets a real WR2.
31. San Francisco 49ers – Cesar Ruiz, IOL, Michigan
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 307 lbs
Arm: 33 ⅛”
Hand: 11”
40-Yard Dash: 5.08s
Bench Press: 28 reps
Broad Jump: 113.0”
Vertical Jump: 33.0”
Ruiz was another winner from the Combine. The Niners don’t have many holes, so a safe pick like this is solid.
32. Kansas City Chiefs – Jeff Gladney, CB, TCU
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 191 lbs
Arm: 31 ⅞”
Hand: 9”
40-Yard Dash: 4.48s
Bench Press: 17 reps
Broad Jump: 124.0”
Vertical Jump: 37.5”
You love to see that 31 ⅞” arm length, plus his vertical. I think we could see Gladney rise even more before Draft day.
Hope you enjoyed. Stay safe.
